The Odoo 19 Kitchen Display System (KDS) is a modern solution designed to streamline and optimize restaurant kitchen operations. Seamlessly integrated with the Odoo Point of Sale (POS) module, it replaces traditional paper tickets with a real-time digital display that enables chefs and kitchen staff to manage orders more efficiently.

Restaurants often face challenges such as communication delays, misplaced orders, and preparation errors, all of which can negatively impact customer satisfaction. Odoo 19 Kitchen Display addresses these issues by providing instant order updates, organized workflow management, and improved coordination between front-of-house and kitchen teams.

The system allows kitchen staff to monitor order progress, prioritize dishes, track preparation status, and reduce service times while maintaining high levels of accuracy. Its intuitive interface and automation capabilities make it an ideal solution for restaurants, cafés, food courts, and other food service businesses seeking to increase productivity, minimize operational bottlenecks, and deliver a faster, more reliable dining experience.

This blog provides a comprehensive overview of the Odoo 19 Kitchen Display System and its key features.

The Kitchen Display, also known as the Preparation Display in Odoo 19, is a dedicated feature within the Point of Sale module that helps streamline order preparation and delivery management. By digitizing kitchen workflows, it enhances communication between serving staff and kitchen teams while reducing the likelihood of errors and missed orders.

To get started, open the Kitchen Display module from the Odoo 19 dashboard.

On the Preparation Display dashboard, the Kitchen Display provides a real-time overview of order preparation statuses, including To Cook, Ready, and Completed. These statuses help kitchen staff track the progress of orders and ensure efficient workflow management.

The dashboard also features two key options: Preparation Display and Order Status Screen, allowing users to manage kitchen operations and monitor customer order progress effectively.

Additionally, the dashboard displays the number of orders currently in the In Progress stage, giving managers and kitchen staff a clear view of pending workloads. The Average Time section shows the average time taken to prepare and complete orders, helping businesses measure performance, identify bottlenecks, and improve operational efficiency.

Users can utilize the search bar to quickly filter, search, and customize the way data is displayed on the dashboard. The Filters menu provides a set of predefined filters for easy data analysis. For more advanced requirements, users can create personalized filters using the Custom Filter option or leverage the Ask AI feature to generate filters intelligently.

The Group By option allows data to be organized into meaningful categories, making it easier to analyze and manage information. Using the Custom Group feature, users can group records based on a variety of available criteria according to their specific needs.

Additionally, the Favorites menu enables users to save frequently used filter and grouping configurations for quick access in the future. Users can also switch between different display modes, such as Kanban View and List View, depending on their preferred way of viewing and managing data.

Clicking on the vertical ellipsis in the display card and selecting Configure will allow you to modify the existing preparation display. You can create a new preparation display by clicking the New button.

In the Name field, enter a suitable name for your Preparation Display. Next, select the Point of Sale that will send orders to this preparation screen and choose the relevant Product Categories whose orders should appear on the display.

A notable addition in Odoo 19 is the Auto Clear feature. When enabled, completed orders are automatically removed from the Order Status Screen once they are marked as ready. Users can specify the auto-clear duration in minutes according to their operational requirements.

Under the Stages tab, click Add a Line to create and configure preparation stages. In the Name field, you can use the predefined stages or create custom ones to match your workflow. The Color field allows you to assign distinct colors to each stage, making it easier to identify order statuses at a glance.

Finally, in the Alert Timer field, specify the expected preparation time in minutes for each stage. This helps kitchen staff monitor order progress and receive visual alerts when orders exceed the defined preparation time.

Under the Communication tab, enable the SMS Enabled option to send order status updates via SMS. When you enable the WhatsApp Enabled option, you can send order status updates via WhatsApp.

Here’s how the Kitchen Display System works: once a customer places an order, it instantly appears on the kitchen display, allowing staff to review and confirm its acceptance.

The system is fully integrated with the Point of Sale (POS) module, ensuring that detailed preparation instructions for each product are clearly displayed. This integration helps kitchen staff prepare orders accurately and efficiently while maintaining smooth coordination with the front-of-house team.

Here, the customer confirms the order after making the payment. Order numbers will be given to the customers based on their bills. Here, the order number is 2001.

After customers complete their payment, they can view the status of their order by selecting the Order Status Screen button.

Orders shown in the Ready column indicate that they are available for pickup, while those in the Almost There column are still being prepared and will be ready shortly. This real-time status tracking helps improve transparency and enhances the overall customer experience.

By using the Preparation Display option, the kitchen team can easily view and manage the number of orders in the To Cook stage. As preparation progresses, orders move to the Ready stage once the food is prepared for serving, and finally to the Completed stage when the order has been fully fulfilled.

Each order card provides detailed information, including the products to be served, current status, waiting time, number of customers, and whether the order is for takeaway or dine-in. If an order is moved to the wrong stage, the Recall button allows staff to revert it to the previous stage.

To exit the screen, simply click the Close button on the Preparation Display window.

Once an order is marked as Ready, it can be moved to Completed, indicating that the preparation process has been finished, as shown below. The Reset button allows users to restart the ordering process from the beginning if needed.

On the left-hand side of the window, users can view orders categorized by time under the Time section, such as Now, Today, Tomorrow, or Next Days. The Preset section displays orders based on their type, including Dine In, Takeout, or Delivery.

Additionally, the Food section provides a complete list of all ordered items, giving kitchen staff a clear and organized overview of current orders.
